One of the biggest challenges you face with your hair is “the Frizz,” out of control, dry frizzy hair is a constant struggle, especially for people with naturally curly hair. 90% of the people who suffer from frizzy hair can trace it back to one reason, moisture. Actually, it’s the LACK of moisture that’s the problem. Our hair should naturally produce oils that keep our hair moisturized. Dry curly hair frizzes when it comes in contact with water from the air. Frizzy hair is a pretty common occurrence in Summer Months like August. We hope these tips make the frizz a little less common.
Make sure to dry your hair the right way.
Apply styling lotion to damp hair, then let it air dry. This will help to keep waves smooth. Don’t tousle your hair! Your more likely to create frizz the more you run your hands through your hair. When blow drying straight hair, pointing the blow dryer towards the ends will help to keep hair sleek. Going against the ends, towards the scalp, can cause frizz. Make sure to dry your hair completely, until all dampness is gone.
Oil Treatments
Giving yourself an oil treatment about twice a week to ward off the frizz. With your hands, work a tablespoon of oil into your dry hair, then with a synthetic brush (organic bristles will soak up the oil.) Leaving it in for as long as possible before you shampoo can help as well.
Careful with the Coating
Don’t over do it with silicone drops or spray, you might over slick your hair. Use only a drop or two of silicone, or a light spray in your palms first, then rub them together and work through the frizz from the ends to your scalp. This way, you can always add more.
Hydrated is Best
Cream based moisturizing shampoos and conditioners can prevent hair absorbing water from the air. When using a good moisturizing shampoo, be sure to rinse your hair thoroughly, so it won’t look dull.
Easy on the Washing.
Wash your hair only two to three times per week, with as long as time as possible between washings. You naturally accumulate oil in your hair that goes a long way to prevent the frizz.
The DO done Right
If you have coarse or curly hair, stay away from razor cuts. Razor cuts can be rough on your hair cuticle and make frizz worse. Blunt cuts can help weigh down the frizz. Don’t overdo it on the layering. Shorter hair can stick out and frizz up. Watch for split ends! Split ends can turn to breakage quick! Maintain a regular hair cut cycle that allows for new growth, but with added quick visits to kill the split ends as soon as you see them.
No Coloring or Bleaching
Coloring and bleaching are major no-no’s when it comes to controlling “the Frizz” Impaling your hair with bleaches, alkaline (permanents) or pigments will deplete your hair of moisture. Bleaching deteriorates the out layer of your hair cuticle, making it coarser and frizzier.
Protect Your Tresses
Those who are in hot, arid, sunny climates need to make sure that their hair care products come with sunscreens to protect against harmful UV rays. Yeap, that’s right, UV rays affect hair as well as skin, especially at depleting your much needed natural moisture.
