Lavender And Lemon Aromatherapy

by BeautyVice on December 9, 2008

The health benefits of aromatherapy could be psychological instead of physical.  In a study made by Ohio State University, 56 people where asked to smell two different scents, lavender and lemon.  After about an hour, most reported a mood lift from smelling the lemon, even if they where not expecting it.  Lemon aromatherapy has been shown to relieve mental fatigue, lift moods, reduce stress, and sharpen the senses.

But, no one felt any change after smelling the lavender.  Research on Lavender aromatherapy has found that smelling lavender can increase sleep, as well as has shown to help control aggressiveness in elderly patients with Alzheimer’s.

“If an individual uses these oils and feels better, there’s no way we can prove it doesn’t improve that person’s health,” the study coauthor William B. Malarkey says.  However, he asserts that this was a “well-designed study” that did not show positive changes in measures of stress hormones, heart rated, pain, or immune-system activity.
