Human Hair contains keratin which is a protein high in fiber. Each hair strand grows from a small hole in the scalp called a follicle.
The follicle ends are called the papilla which is what allows the follicle to obtain its blood supply by letting hair cells to travel up the follicle and harden into hair. The health of your hair is an accurate indicator of your overall health. Under the scalp, your blood feeds and nourishes your hair. The healthier your hair the healthier your blood supply. A person that maintains a poor diet and/or over consumes alcoholic beverages, can find that their hair is thin, weak, limp. This is due to the fact that the blood supply being fed to your hair via the scalp cannot feed your hair a healthy supply of nutrients. Drinking plenty of water and eating nutritious meals helps hydrate and nourish your skin and your blood supply.
The same way the follicles are nourished through your scalp’s blood supply, they can be nourished externally. Use a mild shampoo, and massage your scalp regularly. Some people also use leave-in conditioners and lotions to moisturize the scalp. The moisturizers will coat each shaft of hair. Giving it that healthy, shinny look. Oil massages are good for your hair and scalp since it promotes blood flow to the scalp. It stimulates the circulation in the scalp making you feel relaxed and enhancing blood flow to the follicles nourishing and feeding hair production. As you age you may notice two things, hair loss and graying. Inside your hair strand, a pigment is found that determines your hair color. As the pigment dies, your hairs color will change. This color change is usually gray. Hair loss is a part of the aging cycle of hair. Humans on average, loose an estimated 50 to 80 hairs per day. This hair loss is due to either hereditary factors, aging or environmental factors.
